OTAHUHU SAILING CLUB.

OPENING OF SEASON. The Otnhuhu Sailing: Club opened their thirty-ninth season yesterday ill ideal conditions. Tiliere were 13 entries for the opening race, only Shamrock failing to t?tart, due to enlistment of some of her crew. Interest was centred in Mr. ltoy MclVU's now JS-footer, built locally from Mr. A. Coiildrey's design. On the first round, Atuliintii, well handled by Mr. C. Castles, led the new boat, by 2111 ss, but after this Celeste did much better and passed her rival on the beat down the river, eventually conceding Atalanta her two minutes' handicap with 10s over. Before the racing started, the commodore, Mr. C. Castles welcomed the large attendance of visitors and members and declared the season open. The race was started proniiptly at noon, the starters and the handicaps were: — Celeste, scr; Atalanta, 2m ; Mystic, frill: Annul, fiin ; Ked Shadow. 8111 ; Kismet, 12m: Raider, Revenge. 14m; Rebel, Irene, I 8111: (Ileum. 21111 Kestrel. 28m. Haider was tirst away to a good start, followed by Aoma. Kesf'rel and the others close up. Raider led to the Oyster reef where Atalanta and Celeste caught her, Atalanta taking the le<T down the first round but after this Celeste went out ahead, her big masthead spinnaker doing good work 011 the run up river to the turning mark off the clubhouse. The finish was: Celeste. 11l 44m 50s: Atalanta. 11l 4<>m 555: Mystic, lh 52m 30s; Raider, lh 50m; Red Shadow, lh 511111 4<is ; Aoma. 2h 0111 13s; Revenge, 21l 11 in 555; Kismet. 2h 15m 40s: Rahl'ii, 2h 17m 20s •, Kestrel, 2h 20m 275. Result: Celeste 1, Haider 2, Atalanta. 3. Mr. J. Fearii'ley was hsindicapper, starter and timekeeper, a position he lias held for over 30 years, Mr. W. A. Wilkinson being judge. Competitors and visitors were provided with refreshments by the ladies' committee.
