WORK OF. CHURCH ARMY.
ORGANISATION S GROWTH
The completion of four years of Church Army work as an autonomous society in New Zealand will be celebrated to-mor-row when special services will be held at the organisation's headquarters throughout the day. In the evening Pro. Sister J Roberts will be commissioned. During the past year five new trainees have been accepted and four already in training commissioned. New work has been undertaken at St. Mary s Homes. Wellington, in P.W.D. camps and parishes. The fitißiicifil income for tne vear reveals a large increase. The Church Army now has marquees and workers at N'garuawahia and Narrow Xcck camps, at Hobsonville Air Base, and at TretitliA.ni and Burnham camps. As soon as possible the marquees in use will be replaced by huts. At Papakura the Church Army has a marquee erected and equipped to receive the men on their arrival and definite plans for a hut to be erected in the near future. The Church Armv was founded in England in the vear 1882 by Wilson Carlile, now aged 83. There are 1200 officers in England and 250 missionaries overseas in all parts of the world. There are daughter societies in U.S.A., Canada, Australia and New Zealand. In New Zealand the Church Army has a board 6f con* trol with Archbishop Averill as president and Captain S. R. Banyard, as director. Mr. B. dc Lange has been appointed assistant director so that Captain Banyard may pay special attention to the work among soldiers.
