HARBOUR REGULATIONS. USE OF EASTERN PASSAGES. SEASON PERMITS MAY BE OBTAINED. Permits are now being issued to enable lJeaaure craft to leave and return to harbour by the eastern passages. These l>ermits, which must De sent in through the Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat Association or clubs affiliated to i't, are for the yachting season and will not require to be renewed. The passages referred to are the Motukoreho (Brown's Island) between Brown's Island ami Motuihi, and the Motu.topu Channel, between Motuihi ami Motutapu. The hours in which the two passages are open arc from 5.30 a.m. till 7 n.ni. The Tamaki passage, south of Brown's Island, ijs closed at all times. The prohibited area after the hours staled in defined on the east by a line from Ernst Tamaki Head, through Brown's Island to Emu Point, Motutapu, and on the west by a 'line from Tamaki clubhouse. Bastion Point, to the south-West corner of Rangitoto, locally known as Target Point, about half a mile west of the Rangitoto wharf. Every craft entering by daylight must report to the patrol vessel, but thie is not necessary when leaving port. Yacht and launch wishing to use the channels must apply for a permit to their clubs, while boat owners not belonging to a club must apply in person to the Naval Control Service, Naval Base, Devotiport. The Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat Association has been made responsible for seeing that all craft or sails arc marked with their registered marks or numbers of their permit before handing them to respective owners. The present claas letter and racing number will In! sufficient for yachts, but power boats inu»t have their permit number painted on their bows in figures at least two feet high.

If n yacht is in the prescribed area during prohibited hours, through being becalmed or otherwise, slie must anchor. It is possible voluntary patrol boats may l>e arranged for to tow such craft clear t>efore dark. This matter is now under consideration. PONSONBY CRUISING CLUB. In continuance of its policy of remembering the life members and other supporters, the Tonsonby Cruising Club is arranging to get them together at the clubhouse when they will be taken in a photographic group to adorn the committee room. It was intended to have them meet on October 29, but it has been deferred until a date later in the eeason, possibly after the next Lipton Cup contest on January 27. Mr. Harry Claridge, hon. secretary of this club, was elected assistant secretary of the Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat Association on Tuesday. He will be taking over the job of registering all new boats and listing the change of ownership, a very important matter under present war conditions, and useful at ordinary times. He proposes to go carefully through all classes and delete, after due inquiry, all "dead" numbers, such as boats sold away from Auckland, broken up or otherwise disposed of. and to replace their numl>ers with new boats as they apply. Mr. Claridge is the right one for this work, and all boat owners will wish him luck in his self-appointed task of cleaning up tie local boat register.
