PROBATION GRANTED.
DEATH OF HIS FRIEND.
CAR'S SPEED TOO GREAT.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, Tuesday.
In the Supreme Court to-day Allan James Edwards, aged 19, for negligent driving causing death, was admitted by Mr. Justice Ostler to probation for two years and was prohibited from driving for five years.
This case was the sequel to a fatal accident in Otago Central. Counsel stated that Edwards was of exemplary character, with a splendid sporting and scholastic career. He was 011 a cricketing tour at the time of the accident. He was strictly sober, but was just driving too fast on an unknown road and, realising too late that he had to take a dangerous curve, he misguidedly applied the brakes. He had suffered injury himself and lifelong remorse for causing the death of a friend.
