VERDICT OF "NOT GUILTY."
(From Our Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, Tuesday.
After a retirement of just over half an hour a jury in the Supreme Court to-day acquitted Herbert Swain, taxi driver, of Carterton, of failing to stop after an accident last July. Accused's car struck a car travelling in the opposite direction on the Mastcrton-Caiter-ton highway a glancing blow and did not stop, although the other car did
The defence was that by the time the other car had stopped it was obscured by a bend, and accused, who had slowed down with the intention of stopping, was told by a passenger that the other vehicle had continued.
