INDIA'S STATUS AS NATION,
LONDON, October 17.
The Bihar Assembly has passed a resolution that, in order to secure the co-operation of the Indian people in the war, the principles of democracy should be applied to India, says the Calcutta correspondent of "The Times."
The Assembly, therefore, has invited the British Government tb declare clearly that it regards India as an inde-. pendent nation and to take suitable action, as far as possible in the immediate present, to make-' the declaration effective.
The resolution will be submitted for endorsement in all provincial Legislatures in which there are Congress Governments.
The British official wireless states that the Government of India has decided to create an Economic Resources Board i:i order to cope with a large number of economic problems arising from war conditions.
The board will be constituted of representatives of all the Departments oonoerned with the development and conservation of India's resources. Steps are being taken to maintain close contact with the provincial Governments and with professional, industrial and commercial organisations.
