Mr. R. B. Cranwell, of Ha-milton, has returned from a trip to Britain. Mr. J. S. Milne will leave for Wellington by the Limited express this evening. Mr. G. H. Maekley, general manager of railways, who has been visiting Auckland, will leave on his return ■to Wellington this evening. Mr. S. J. Harbutt, chairman of the Auckland Electric Power Board, returned from Wellington by the Limited express this morning. Mr. E. M. Metcalfe, of Hamilton, accompanied by Mrs. Metcalfe, has returned from an extended tour of Xew South Wales and Queensland. Major E. G. Byron, formerly military secretary to the Governor-General, Lord Galway, and Lieutenant S. R. le H. Lom-bard-Hobson, R.X., formerly naval aide de camp, have arrived in England and rejoined their respective services.
Mr. Joseph. D. Birrell, general manager in Xew Zealand of the Westinghouse Electric International Company (X.Z.), Limited, for 16 years, has been promoted to general manager of the Far Eastern zone, with headquarters in Manila.
Dr. C. Coleridge Farr and Professor F. F. Miles have been appointed Government representatives on the Carter Observatory Board. Dr. M. A. i\ Barnett, representing the Royal Society of Xew Zealand, has been appointed t> fill the vacancy on the board caused bv the death of Dr. E. Kidson.
