RIFLE SHOOTING.
AUCKLAND CITY CLUB. V BOWES IN BRILLIANT FORM. The first championship shoot of the season was fired by the Auckland City Defence Rifle Club at 800 and 900 yards. Seven shots only were fired at each range owing to increased membership. P. Bowes shot brilliantly to win the A grade spoon on a count back from H. G. Collingwood and A. J. Pieterson. Members commenced shooting in the first series for its No. 1 trophy on the 200 and 300 yards ranges on Saturday In fine weather. With an overcast sky an even light prevailed, but a light fishtail wind was the cause of a few points being dropped. Operations were controlled by Mr. T. X. Murray, who acted as range officer.
