RICCARTON HORSES.
TRENTHAM CANDIDATES. A USEFUL TEAM. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") OHRISTCHURCH, this day. Following tlhe usual practice, there will be a useful team of Riccarton hoii'ses for the spring meeting of the Wellington Racing Club, which will be started on Thursday. A year ago the horsew from tiliis end won six races, and though there is nothing in the Defaulter class for this year s trip some wins may be expected. The intention of H. and A. Cutts was to have live horses, but Counterblast will not make the flip. She is slightly amiss, and she may require a spell. Trench Fight has l>eeii galloping freely, and he looks as well as ever, though it is against him that" his race form for some time past has not been good. Winning Rival looks an improved filly since her winning effort in the Dunedin Guineas and should race well, though she will need to do much better than in the Guineas to have a chance of beating Beaulivre in the Trentham Stakes. The two-year-old Wild Fox has come on lately, and she should pay her way in handicaps. Great Flight, though not engaged on the first day, will be worth keeping in mind for later in Che meetinc, as she is a useful hack and is in good order.
D. Cotton lias Density looking well, and she has lost none of her speed, the only question being whether s>he is quite readyto run out six furlongs solidlv. Though beaten by Toro Koura at Washdyke, she will 'benefit' a lot by tihat race. Rebel Lad shaped creditably at Washdyke, it 'being his first race for about a year and a half, and he will do better soon. Grey Night is a speedy galloper in form, and certain to Show up in hack sprints. Blue Coat, a candidate for novice events, will •have to foe kept in mind, as he is useful and improving. ~
C. C. McCarthy has Haughty Winner at his best again, and Ihe will foe hard to beat over a mile, as this is his favourite course. Rabble is coming on, but is nor at his best yet. Cymric is a promising maiden and will benefit by racing. A. J. Martin lias Wagner at his best, and a repetition of the form that enabled him to win easily at Riccart'on in August will keep his opponents busy. Dinah Dhu. with engagements on the second and third days, is an improving tihree-year-old, capable of running a good mile. Parquet has shown that she can stay, and as F. Christmas has her in good order she- will be handy in distance races. Gay Parade has come on a lot lately. He is a brilliant sprinter, a recent recruit from hack class, and he is capable of pacing it with the best.
Although Dictate failed at Washdyke last Saturday he must not be ruled out. This was one of his rare bad races, and he should pay his way on this trip, as A McAulay has him very well.
F. A. Roberts will have Kinsman as his only representative. This Bean Pere two-year-old has" done well, and he should 'be good lateir on, though he has not 'been highly tried yet.
