SLY FOX WINS PLUMPTON
RACING AT AVONDALE.
BIG DIVIDEND. PAYETTE'S SURPRISE DOWN STABLEMATE. MIO LUME TAKES HURDLES. MAIDEN PIiATE TO HUMTO.
The Avondale Jockey Club concluded its spring meeting this afternoon in glorious weather and in the presence of a large attendance. The track was in good order. Veteran Succeeds. The veteran juniper Alio Liune waited, on the field until two furlongs from home in the 'Grey Lynn Hurdles, and then came through to score comfortably. Bisquit and Ads urn were responsible for most of the pace, but they both weakened over the final stages. When they were let go, King Musk, Roxy, Lady England, and. Adsum were the first to show out, but, passing the st?:nd, Bisquit had charge from Adsum, Mio Lnme, Kittle. Tanc Mahotu, with Mia Acrea and Gadger heading the others. Ivoxy had lost his rider at the first jump in the straight. Going along the hack, Bisquit and Adsum were practically on terms, with Gadger and Mia Acrea next, and then came Tane Maliotu, Mio I.ume and Kittle. There was little change into tire straight, where Mio Lume improved his position and, once over the last fence, he went on to win by two lengths and a half from Bisquit, with Adsum half a length awav. Gadger was fourth, followed by Kittle, Mia Acrea, King Musk and Lady England. Tane Mahotu fell at the second last fence.
An Improver. Hunto improved on his first day's running to beat tlie opposition in the Maiden Plate. He was always in a handy position and finished in good style in the run to the post. Glen Connell had every chance, being one of the leaders at the home turn, as also was The Dozer, who had never been further back than fourth after the field had settled down. Pern showed a fair I amount of speed early, and is a likely improver. British Talent jumped out first from Pern and Starbright, with Gay Movie, c Hunto and The Dozer next. When they < had gone half-way, British Talent, The j Dozer and Gay Movie were the most prominent from Starbright, Glen Connell, Pern, Hunter's Night and Hunto. As ' they turned for home, Glen Connell, The * Dozer and Cay Movie were leading 1 Hunter's Night, Hunto, Starbright, Te ' Kawiti, Karatoki and Royal Fawkes. < Hunto did best over the concluding i stages to win by half a length from Glen Connell, with The Dozer a head 1 away. Hay Movie was fourth, with Te ] Kawiti, Right Royal and Estro follow- • ing. A Big Dividend. There was a big surprise in the Nur- j eery Handicap, the winner, Payette, ; returning her supporters over half a , century. She jumped out smartly and, < when challenged over the bit, ran ( on very gamely. She is the first of , Autopav's stock to win a race. Ken- , tucky ran right up to his form of the first day and looks like being an early winner, while Queen City came home | really well, and more is likely to be 1 heard of her before long. Deanna Dnrbin lost ground at the start, and the early leader* were Payette, Kentucky, Desert Tide. Surpai, Happicoat and Merrymeer. Rounding the home turn, Payette was just show- s ing in front of Kentucky, ami then came . Queen City and Happicoat, with the \ others strung out. Jn a stirring finish. , Payette beat Kentucky by half a head. ; with Queen City a head further back. < Happicoat was fourth and then came ] Bronze Model, Teac-ony and Grandora. i Too Solid. ( i Always in a handy position, Sly Fox , stayed on too solidly for the opposition in the Plumpton Handicap. It was his second consecutive win, and he is sure ( to increase his record before the spring meetings are over. He was well ridden 1 by T. Green and never covered any unnecessary ground. King Rey came home very fast in the last furlong, while Airam ran up to her form of Saturday. Going out of the straight Sly Fox and Black Musk led Gay Mimic, Airam, Miss Appellant, Philcourt, King Rey and Jack Tar, with Kena at the rear. Along the t-ack Black Musk was leading Inver, Sly Fox, Philcourt, Airam, Miss Appellant, Gamos, King Rey and Poland, but when they reached the top Pliilcaurt was in second Jilace behind Black Musk, while King Rey also made a forward , move, the order of the others being the , same. Half-way down Sly Fox took the lead and won nicely by three-quarters of a length from King Rey, with Airam a neck away. Philcourt was fourth, followed by Loweitberg, Tidewaiter, Gay Mimic, Black Musk, Royal Apneliant, Miss Appellant, Master Brierly and Gold V&als. Results: — GREY LYNN HURDLES of £250.
