SALES TAX YIELD.

DECREASE DURING JULY. The amount of sales tax collected during July, according to the Abstract of Statistics. was £285,530, a decrease of £51,062, or 15.4 per cent, below the total for June. The June figure, however, was the highest j recorded since the introduction of the tax in February, 1033. Although the July total was £10,134 less than that of the corresponding month of the previous year, the aggregate collection for the seven months of 1939 is ; £2,143,144, an increase of £170,561, or 8.6 per cent, on tile total for the same period of 1938.
