Apart from "okaying" all the "stills" of this picture —whether of her or of the rest of the cast, Norma also views the "rushes" each day, and, when she does not like them, they are re-"shot." More than that, if & "take" fails at the time to please Norma, it has to be re-done— even when passed by the director. This is an all-time record in seeking of perfection. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ CERTAIN producer was making a picture with a lot of lovely girls in a swimming-and-diving act. One of the girl®, in a sub-surface scene, swallowed too much water and, at first, resisted all attempts to revive her. Finally, she began to come to. The producer rushed up and said: "What's that you're doing?" "Using artificial respiration," he was told. "To the hot place with anything artificial," said the producer. "She's worth the real thing."

+ + + + JANE WITHERS has grown two and a half inches in a few months and lost 121b. That is not the reason, however, for the new label, "problem child" which has been tacked on the 13-year-old star. Jane is rebelling against her harum-scarum roles. She wants to be a young lady in her pictures. She is tired of being pushed around, falling into mud, etc. To give one instance of Jane's changed psychology—she is now collecting perfumes, instead of her former white mice!

TF the limousines in the Pacific Auto Rental Company (Los Angelee) could speak, quite a story could be told. Among the cars for hire at a rate of 50 dollars a day is Rudolph Valentino s Isotta, Clara Bow's Locomobile, which has gold door handles, a Mercedes-Benz that once belonged to Clara Kimball Young, a Rolls-Royce formerly owned by George Raft, and the 20.000-dollar Duesenburg, the property of Dolores Del Rio during the height of her film fame. The ears are mostly hired by out-of-town admirers of the original owners.

TXEDY LAMAHR'S latent admirer is fat Spanky MeFarland. He strutted over to lier in the commissary the other day and stated, "I'm Spanky." Hedy smiled. "I made a Let," continued Spanky. Hedy continued to smile.

"You've got to be a friend of mine, or it will cost me two bits," said Spanky. "All right, I'm a friend of yours," obliged Hedy. "I want proof; you've got to kiss me," persisted Spanky. Hedy rose to the situation. Closing her eyes, she planted a kiss full on the MeFarland brow. They were both visibly shaken by the experience—but what an approach !
