THE CENTENNIAL.
In replying to a question as to the position of the Centennial in view of the outbreak of war, the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, stated at a meeting of the City Council last evening that at the moment he was unable to make a public statement. The whole question, he added, was to be decided at a meeting of the Metropolitan Centennial Executive this evening, after which a full public statement would be issued. In the meantime, his hands were tied largely owing to the confidential nature of the negotiations which he had coilducted with the Government.
