LICENSE OPPOSED.
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day.
A petition signed by G. E. Simpson and 510 other electors of Tauranga was presented to the House of Representative# yesterday by Mr. F. W. Doidge (National, Tauranga), praying that "a publican's license be not granted for Matamata. Petitioners say that steps have been, taken with a view to obtaining ft new license or the transfer of a publican's license for Matamata, and they contend that such a license is not needed.
"There is a large motor traffic to and from the Okatiia Hot Springs and the institution of a publican's license would inevitably result in increased danger and loss of life," petitioners say. "We further object to the issue 011 the ground that the license would provide a danger to youth in a district which, by reason of its no-license conditions, has been particularly free from. crime and destruction."
