CANNOT NOMINATE.
UNIT IN SPECIAL FORCE. (By Telegraph.— Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON", this day. When a man enlists for service in New Zealand or abroad he cannot be accepted for any particular unit he nominates. This was made plain in the House of .Representatives yesterday by the Minister- of Defence. Mr. .(ones, in reply to an urgent question asked bv Mr. .1. A. Lee (I !o\eminent. Grev Lynn) on behalf of Mr. Speaker (Mr. W. E. Barnard, Government. Na pier). "The military authorities must retain the right to post or transfer a man to any unit within the force."said Mr. .lone* "Wherever possible a man will be posted to the unit in which lie has had training. Previous N.C.O. rank in the Territorial Force is a good recommendation for promotion in the Special Force, but in no way confers any right on the man to he granted rank in the Special Force. In other words, a man enlists in the Special Force without any stipulation as to the unit or rank in which he will serve." The Minister added that if a unit of t.h« Territorial Force were called up for service a man would retain his rank and appoint merit in that'unit.
