ELLERSLIE AFFAIRS.
If by putting the footpaths of the district in order it would satisfy your correspondent Mr. A. Pinder, then he is easily satisfied- It would look as though the Noxious "Weeds Act does not apply to Ellerslie. and in this respect not only the Borough Council is lacking in its duty but many residents, seemingly, don't possess much sense of civic pride. How about enforcing the Act for a change? Then, again, Ellerslie is unique in that it has no Public Library nor even a reading room. I know of 110 other borough in Xew Zealand without this primary social amenity. Then there is the question of marauding cattle on the streets (and gardens); not that we consider that such a heinous offence, for. beinsr as "we are. a quiet, sleepy little rural hamlet, we naturally look upon the beneficent kine with some degree of toleration, and, as aforesaid, being a country community, the horse is still with -us, and Ms liquid requirements are met bv the council to the extent of providing a trough sans water! As for drainage—to discuss that is verboten! HOL" S E WIFE.
