UP TO £8 8/ PER OUNCE. SHARP DROP IN STERLING. (Kecvived 11 a.m.) LONDON, September 5. Gold in quoted at £8 8/ per fine ounce. The American dollar ia quoted at 4.02 to 4.06 to the pound sterling, and the French franc at 174 Vs. The following is a summary of the fluctuations in the price an ounce of line gold this year:—
Sterling was considered abnormally low last week when it dropped to 4.17% to the American dollar.
