TWO YEARS' PROBATION.
CHANCE TO MAKE GOOD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Admitting Vincent Brineley Nielsen (38), a telegraphist, to two years' probation for theft while a teller at Te Aro Post Office, the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, said sending the man to prison would make him a liability on the State, and more than ever these day«i every effort shduld be made to see every person was an asset. Probation was granted upon the ground that the Court thought prisoner could be converted into an asset.
Two years' probation was also given in the case of Eric Entwhistle Lester (23), who destroyed by Are a car he was buying under a hire purchase system. The judge took account of prisoner's youth and the fact that as far as was known he had previously borne a good character.
