THE DECLARATION OF WAR, GAZETTE ISSUED TO-DAY. (B.v Telejrrnpli.— I'ress Association.) WELLINGTON, this day Official notification of the British declaration of war «-<n Germany is contained in an Extraordinary Gazette issued at 3.30 a.m. to-day. The document states:— "His Excellency the GovernorGeneral has it in command from His Majesty the King to declare that a state of war exists between His Majesty and the Government of the German Reich and that such a state of war has existed from 9.30 p.m. New Zealand standard time on the third day of September, 1939." The proclamation is signed by the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, and the acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. P. Fraser. "UNDIVIDED LOYALTY." ORANGE INSTITUTION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The following resolution has been sent to the New Zealand Prime Minister: — "That the Grand Executive of the Loyal Orange Institution in New Zealand, in thiis hour of national crisis, desires to assure the Prime Minister and the Parliament of New Zealand of the undivided loyalty of its members in any steps necessary to ensure the adequate defeniv: of New Zealand and the unity of the British Empire."

RAIL WORKERS' RESOLUTION. At the largest meeting ever hold at the Otahuliu railway workshops. the men to-day passed a resolution pledging full support for and co-operation with the Government in the present situation. The meeting, which was presided over by the works manager, Mr. J. B. Graham, passed the following motion: J "That this mass meeting of railwaymen pledges loyal support for and cooperation with any measures which the Government ■•v find it necessary to take in co«B»tioii with the present situation. »*»«J-er, this meeting records its appreciation of the steps already taken by the Government for the defence of New Zealand."
