WITH ONE ACCORD.
The tocsin of war dins its rallying call to the peoples of the British Empire, and with one voice the far scattered communities of the great Commonwealth are declaring their kinship and uniting with the Motherland. The spontaneity with which all sections, factions and races have identified themselves with the resolute attitude of the British Government is a tribute to the character and quality of our own people's cherished freedom and privileges. New Zealand is renowned for its intense patriotic loyalty to'the Empire and for all it stands. It is accepted as a matter of ordinary sequence, therefore, that our Government should be among the first to assure the British authorities that we are standing to arms with all our forces awaiting orders. But the alacrity with which the whole splendid company of peoples and nations acknowledging the Union Jack as the symbol of its sovereignty has sprung to attention is a thrilling and complete answer to any foreign hope the Empire's bonds would not withstand another call to arms. Never was it in greater unity of thought and spirit and stern resolve.
