MAN PLEADS GUILTY

1 his man is a drunkard, not a thief,'' said Mr. \Y. Noble. in the Police Court this morning when appearing for Vivian Henry (Jeorge Wirk, who pleaded guilty to the theft of three suit cases, a brief bag, and a box of ribbons.
Detective-Sergeant McHugli said that Detective Anderson saw accused go into a second-hand shop with one of the suitcases and ipiestioncd him. The detective then went into the shop and found accused had sold other cases for £1 14/. The cases had been stolen from two city warehouses.
Mr. Noble .said that accused was a well-educated man and liad a medical student, but drink had nut tin* hotter of him. and to-day lie was a drunkard when in the city, lie had had considerable domestic trouble, and at one time possessed about .00(10. but hail lust it in business. If jriven a chance he would go away to work in the country on a farm.
Mr. W. H. McKean. S.M.. convicted and ordered accused to come ii|> for sentence if railed upon within two years and advised him to remain in the country during that period. He was also ordered to make restitution to the amount of £1 14/.
