REPLY TO MR. NASH.
BUREAU OF IMPORTERS,
Replying to-day to the allegations of unfair tactics made by the Minister of Finance, the Hon. AY. Xasli, against an Auckland organisation, on his return to Xew Zealand from his London mission, the Bureau of Importers states that the information which it cabled overseas was essential to keep British exporters informed 011 the conditions existin? in Xew Zealand.
Dealing with Mr. Nash's statement that Kngli.sh exporters were satisfied with the arrangements he had made with them, the bureau gives a typical copy of cables it received: "The Press reports 011 Mr. Xaslrs interview with the United Kingdom Boot Manufacturers' Federation are entirely wrong. The dangers of the Xew Zealand Government policy are emphasised. An immediate shortage of boots in Xew Zealand and an ultimate unsound basis for the Xew Zealand boot industry was clear. Mr. Xash admitted a breach of the United Kingdom-New Zealand Ottawa Agreement. Perhaps Mr. Nash was satisfied, but nobody else was."
It leaves the public to judge for themselves whether it did anything unfair.
