SYDNEY, September 3. .The New Zealand three-year-okl Beau v ite opened his winning account in Auetralia yesterday by taking the Canterbury Stakes, six furlongs, from Gold Rod and Braznndt in the good time of 1.121. Paddy the Rip weakened in the run home in the Ashbury Handicap, nine furlong*, which was won by Rathlin in the course record time of 1.52 V&. VV. Cook, who rode Beau Vitc, in confident chat the colt will win the Australian Jockey Club Derby. "No other colt I have ridden has so impressed me as a prospective Derby winner," he said.
