NEW WATER SUPPLY.
SYDNEY'S HUGE DEMAND
SCHEME TO COST £1,000,000.
Preparations for the slaking of Sydney's growing thirst were described today by Mr. F. W. F. Waitt, advisory engineer of the Sydney Water Board, who intends shortly to visit the United States to inspect water supply systems there.
Mr. Waitt said that a peak of 102.000.000 gallons had been reached on the hottest day of last summer, and it was now proposed to spend approximately £1.000.000 to get additional water supplies. The scheme now being developed was known as the Warragamba, where water was to be drawn from a river, and then carried through a 4Sin pipeline to Sydney's main reser-
voir. This would supplement the exist in™ Sydney supply, which had a capacity of 105,000,000,000 gallons.
Mr. Waitt said that there had been a remarkable increase in the demand for water, but tlie new scheme was capable of great development, and it was considered would meet Sydney's needs for years to come.
