THE RESERVE UNITS.
DEFENCE MINISTER'S ADVICE
TO WOULD-BE RECRUITS.

"With reference to the National Military Reserve now being formed, it lias been decided to institute a special register of those applicants who prefer that their services should, if possible, be used in thp naval forces of New Zealand,' said the Minister of Defence, the Hon. t. Jones, in a statement today.
Nt was nut at present anticipated, he said, that there would lie any requirements fur men to serve in the New Zealand naval forces over and above the <'flioers and men who already belong to the Royal Naval Reserve and Royal Naval \ ounteeer Reserve, and recruiting at present, was not open in tho--e reserve forccs except in cases of certain e\-members of the active service and telegraph operators of the Post and telegraph Department, who will be admitted to the Royal Naval Reserve w ien the numbers allow.
-At the same time, it mav well be that requirements will arise bevond those now foreseen, and it will be" advantageous for the naval authorities to e , In possession of the names of men whose experience and predilections quality them more for naval than military service," the Minister stated. "Such men should complete a card for enrolment in the New Zealand National Reserve in the ordinary way, and if they a "- v experience at sea should insert particulars on the back of the card. These cards will be referred bv the Army authorities to the Naval Department, and in the event of war or an emergency such men may be called up for naval service instead of military service.
