LONDON, August 12.
A sensation was caused at th* National Eisteddfod, held at Denbigh, Wales, when the authorities withheld I the crown poem prize, won by Mr. Caradoc Pritchard, a London journalist.
The reason given by the adjudicators was that Mr. Pritchard had not followed the theme set. which was "Tumults or the World." Mr. Pritchard had turned .the subject to one of "suicide."
Thousands of Welshmen from all over ! the world who filled the pavilion missed j the traditional ceremony of crowxuag the triumphant bard. Dr. Parrv William*?, giving the filings of his fellow adjudicators and himself, said there was no donbt that the poem "Suicide," was far superior W anvthing else in the compe on. The withholding of the crown only occurred once before, at Llandudno in 1596 The £20 j.rize which would nor--3v have jrone to Mr. Pritchard is to be kept by the Eisteddfod authorities.
