GOVERNMENT TAXATION.
TOTALISATOR REBATE PROTEST FROM HAWKED BAY. (By Telegraph—'Press Association.) HASTINGS, ■ Monday. A protest against the proposal of the Government to discontinue iriie rebate of 1 per cent hitherto alloiwed on the total amount invested on the totalizator and its resultant serious effects on all clubs' finances, -was made at the annual meeting of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Olub to-nigh t. A resolution was passed urging t/he Government to reconsider its proposal. "It is not at all equitable," said the president, Mr. G. D. Beatson. "It -will practically mean the death kneß of all country chubs."
FILLY DOING WELL.
The two-year-old Happicoat wag given a run over two furlongs on the No. 3 grass track on Saturday morning and registered 25 3-5s for the distance. It was a very satisfactory effort, and shows that this filly has gone on the right .way since her outing in the parade at the Paknraoga meeting. Haippicoat will strip in excellent order for the Avondale Stakes next month, and considerable • interest will be evinced in her showing in the "classic"" event.
