The committee stated that this biH which seeks to secure exemption fron local rating- of the board's tramwaytracks. involves the question of policyaffecting rating on general utilities and a matter for consideration by the Gov. ernment.
The chairman of the Auckland Trans, port Board. Mr. W. H. Xagle, returned to Auckland this morning, after giving evidence in Wellington yesterday before the Local Bills Committee in support of the "bill. Mr. Xagle *aid tliat the board paid annually to other Auckland local authorities approximately £5600 a year in rates. Under the proposed legislation they sought relief to the extent of approximately £3000 rates paid annually on 44 miles of double tram tracks. The iboard did not seek exemption from sipecial rates on over-\ head gear, or land and buildings. Mr. Xagle added that no comment on the committee's recommendation could be made at the moment, and that the matter would come 'before the board at a meeting next Monday.
