DRILL HALL NEEDED.
GISBORNE TERRITORIALS.
APPEAL TO GOVERNMENT.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBORNfe, this day.
The newly-formed Gisborne Territorial Association has decided to apply to the Government for the erection of a garrison hall in the town. In moving that representations be made to the member for the district and the Minister of Defence, pointing out the total inadequacy of Abercorn Hall for training purposes, the chairman, Mr. F. R. Ball, pointed out that the meeting had been held at the request of the Government and on that account alone the application should receive favourable consideration.
On behalf of local officers and territorials Major Blackburn expressed appreciation of the interest that had been taken in the formation of the association. The difficulties that had been faced in Gisborne were probably greater than those experienced anywhere else in New Zealand, he said. Apart from the difficulty of training 200 men in so small a drill hall there was also the question of obtaining a suitable rifle range.
