SALVATION ARMY.
Ready To Accept Nominations
For New General.
ADVISORY COUNCIL QUESTION.
(Received 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, August 21.
It is understood that the Salvation Army High Council has reached a stage at which it is in a position to accept nominations for the election of the next general. An official statement says that the council to-day discussed some methods by which assistance could be rendered to the general by developments within the scope of the present organisation.
This is taken to refer to a suggestion with which the names of Commissioner Lamb and others are associated, and to which other members of the council are believed to be strongly opposed, namely, that the general should have the advice of an administrative council of army officers in matters connected with organisation, as distinct from duties of evangelical leadership.
The council to-day passed a resolution desiring the new general not to change the constitution of the army without previous consultation with the commissioners, says a later cable message.
