Certain negro kings on the c6a«t of Africa salute by snapping the middle linger three times. An intended bride, in Africa brings a little water in a calabash, and kneeling down before her lover desires him to wash his httnde. When this is done the girl, with tears of joy in her eyes, drinks the water, as the greatest proof she can give of her fidelity and attachment to him.
