FINE EFFORT.
SUBMISSION SPRINTS. HORSES AT WANGANUI FORDELL TEAM BACKWARD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WANGAXUI, Saturday. Baron Bold never looked better than he is at present and he promises to be very hard to beat in the Bracelet events at the Combined Hunt Clubs' meeting at New Plymouth. Mr. W. McA. Duncan will not be represented in the Wanganui Guineas, his three entrants. Scandal, Ruka and Tuatara, having been withdrawn. Because of the unfavourable track conditions at f ordell, D. T. Marks has been able to do little or nothing with Ruka, while Tuatara has an injured knee. Scandal is in steady work, but his prospects in the classic did not look "bright enough to continue his engagement. The bad weather has also prevented Marks from breaking in the two youngsters, Love Chase and Poritu. and they will not be seen out for some time to come. Love Chase has grown into a finelooking youngster and the sinter to Sternchase appears likely to make good later on. Lowenberg was given a few days' lot-up after his return from Riccartoii, but is back in work looking bright and well on it. From appearances the Lord Quex gelding should be much improved by the time the Wanganui meeting comes round. Ruatiti will not I>e seen out at the WanganuL meeting, as although he looks in great . hearty he has done very little work. . The Limond gelding is such a long strider that he needs a track like Trentham or Ellerslie to show of his beet. When he is wound up Ruatiti is likely to add'further to his winning record, as lie is well above the average.
Mrs. S. L. Parsons has La Vie engaged o • Wan S a o ui Guineas, but the Night Raid filly is unlikely to contest the event, as she has not been up long after a spell. So far Amigo has not made his rea.ppeaiance on the tracks, but the Beau Pere gelding is said to have recovered from the effects of an injury received three weeks ago, and is expected to resume work very shortly. W. H. Dwyer ha« an addition -to his u Cal in ' n °f a two-year-old colt by Beau Pere out of a sister to Lady Desmond. This youngster is a real beauty to look at, and bred a* lie is it will be surprising if he does not win some races when Dwyer has him ready to show of hie best. The outstanding feature of this morning's track work was Submission's effort over six furlongs, as she showed a brilliant turn of speed over early stages. The weather was fine, but Xo. 1 track soft I after heavy rain yesterday. It was intended that Amatory (M. Home) and Submission (L. Jackson) should keep together in the trial, but the latter was two lengths behind at the jump off and when /he got going she simply flew past Amatory and had opened up a big break after going a furlong, the boy being unable to steady her. Submission cut out the first quarter in 24 4-5s and the half mile in 49 4-os. At the turn she was eased and Amatory, on the inside, drew up fairly close, but the'filly came away again to be two lengths ahead at the post, going easily, her time for the full distance being 1.17 2-5. It was a very fine performance and one that makes her prospects in the Wanganui Guineas look very bright. Entail (W. Rayner) put in two rounds, the last half mile being run in 54%5. He was wide out and under a strong hold. Homily (E. Ludlow) was sent six furlongs, but Was not Out after time. She took 28%s for the quarter and 54%s for the half mile, the full distance being done in The sister to Pekoe and the Foxbridge filly, inmates of -3V. stable, went three furlongs together down the back in 40 2-ss, Daisy Chain and Eurotas were associated in a spin Over three furlongs. The latter began well clear, but got his tongue over the bit, and Daisy Chain beat him home by a couple of lengths. Uvedale (M. Home) sprinted half a mile in 525. The Loighon filly has a lot of pace and should pay her way when Butler has her wound up. Marks .came in from Fordell with Smoke Screen Russian Ballet, Scandal and Red Cat. Smoke Screen ran the first half of a mile m 555, going comfortably. It is problematical whether he will stand the acid test, but favoured by soft going Marks might get a race or two out of the Limond gelding. i Scandal ran four furlongs in 52 2-5s without being extended, Red Cat taking 34735. Russian Ballet was anxious to increase the pace over half a mile, which she ran m 54%5. Consequent on the long spell of wet weather, all of the Fordell team are backward in condition. The unnamed Acre gelding in L. G. Butler s stable. Portal and Dynasty finished in that order at the end of six furlongs run in 1.18 1-5. The Acre gelding was on the outside and was half a length ahead of Portal, with Dynasty two lengths back.
