Submarines Reported Seen Off

SEARCH PROVES FRUITLESS,
(Received 9.30 a.m.) BRISBANE, this day. For more than a week three 'planes have been searching coastal waters near Townsville because of reports that strange craft, resembling submarines, have been seen there.
The Minister of Defence. Mr. G. A. Street, said in Melbourne that investigations appeared to have proved that the reports were groundless. A number of people in different parts of the coast had reported having seen a submarine showing lights.
