ADDRESSES ON RECRUITING. FUNCTIONS HELD AT THAMES. (By Telejrrtiph—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, Thursday. Arbor Day was celebrated here yesterday by the planting of trees in Jellicoe Crescent by members of the Beautifying Society, l>orough officials and Thames school children.

Citizens turned out in large numbers Inst night to witness a parade of territorials and later attended a meeting at St. James' Hall, when they were addressed by Captain C. A. Pilcher on defence matters and the necessity for all young men to join the Territorial Force.

The Mayor, Mr. S. Ensor, presided. A vote of thanks was accordcd to the speaker. At the conclusion of the meeting several young men joined up.
