FOREST FLORA.
INTEREST AMONG CHILDREN.
COMPETITION WINNERS.

WELLINGTON, this day.
To awaken the interest of boys and girls to the forest flora of New Zealand a competition for the best collection of specimens of individual trees and shrubs iras held recently by the New Zealand Forestry League. The results, which were announced at the annual meeting of the league last night, were as follow:—
Children Over 12 Yeats.—T. Afford (Auckland), 52 correctly named specimens), 1; Beverly Smith (Nelson), 48, 2; Mary Norris (Waipawa), 40, 3. Children under 12 years: Isla Edgar (Brooklyn), 52,1; Pauline Bueckenberg (Brooklyn), 34, 2; Barbara Young (Hastings), 33, 3.
The competition was judged by Mr. B. Moorhotlee, of the State Forest Service. The Director of Forestry, Mr. A. R. Entrican, said the standard of work submitted varied from very good to rather poor. It was the judge's opinion that the exhibits made by T. Afford and Beverly Smith In the senior class and by Jala Edgar in the junior class were of a very high standard for «uch a . competition.
