COLLEGE RUGBY RIVALS TO MEET AT EDEN PARK.

Traditional rivals over a long period of years, Auckland Grammar School and New Plymouth Boys' High School will meet in their annual Rugby clash on Saturday. Rivalry between the two schools has increased as the years pass, and over the past ten years the match has been recognised as the most important in the Grammar School's fixture card.

Knowing the spirit in which the game is fought each year, the Kugby Union has done the schools the honour of putting the game on Eden Park as the main attraction on Saturday.

Saturday will also mark the opening of the pennant competition, which will occupy senior teams while the representative season is in swing. Change of Jerseys. The management committee of the Auckland Kugby Union discussed last night a suggestion from the Referees' Association that players in representative games at Eden Park should ciiange their jerseys at half time, thus assisting referees and spectators alike. "That players should change their jerseys at naif time is a good suggestion," said the chairman, Mr. A. A. Baker. "Many good players carry a second set, and it is wonderful what a difference it makes. I don't wish ,to be constantly harking back to my playing days, but when l played, 1 always earned two sets of gear —even spare boot#," Mr. J. Herrick: Yes, but you were a good player, sir. Members questioned whether players would have tinie to change at the interval, but it was decided to tnank the association for its suggestion, and to bear it in mind. Suspension of Player. The case of G. Lawrence, Takapuna senior grade forward, who was recently suspended for five playing Saturdays for striking an opposing .Northcote player, was discussed at length. Lettere received from the player struck and the Takapuna Club, contended that the punishment was out of proportion to the offence. The Takapuna Club stated that Lawrence had played Rugby for 20 years, and had never before been ordered off.

"Every case is-treated on its merits by the judicial committee," commented the chairman. "These letters are out of order. There is no appeal."

Mr. A. Sinimonde: This must be one of the most severe. penalties imposed for several seasons.

"Though we may think the verdict harsh, 1 don't see liow we can make an 'about face,' " said Mr. K. Harrop,

Decision was made to send the two letters to the judicial committee for its report whether the sentence should be diminished or upheld.

In future, it was decided, players and referees appearing before the judicial committee would not do so together.

A letter of tlinnks for a donation of £20 toward expenses of Koiler Mills Shield teams was received from the secretary of the Primary Schools' Rugby Union. It was decided to recommend to the Primary Schools' Union that a parade of primary school footballers 15e held on September 30, when Auckland will meet the Bar>barians. A reunion of old-time representative players will be held the same day. The Fixtures.
