PROTECTION OF FORESTS.

DEER CULLING CAMPAIGN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The seriousness or the damage caused to forests in New Zealand by deer was emphasised by Captain G. F. Yerex, officer in charge of deer culling operations, when speaking at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Forestry League to-night. "A great deal of intensification is taking place in the campaign against deer, and more progress is being made than is generally realised," said Captain Yerex.

Reference to the deer problem, erosion and the need for forests in high country at sources to be owned by the Government, were made by Mr. A. L. Hunt.

The following officers were elected: — President, Sir R, Heaton Rhodes; council, Messrs. A. Atkinson, D. Bowie, W. H. Denton, S. Duncan, A. L. Hunt, A. Seed, D. G. Morrison, F. S. Pope and R. Page.
