GIRL'S MISTAKE.

THEFT FROM CABIN. MULTI-MILLIONAIRE'S CLOCK. "The actual value of the clock is £150, It is solid gold and belongs to a multimillionaire, I believe," said DetectiveSergeant MeHutrh in the Police Court to-day when a young woman, 18 years of age. a first offender, pleaded guilty before Mr. J. Morling, S.M., to the theft of a clock, the property of Adolf Zukor.

Detective A. Moore read a statement made and signed by the accused, in which she said she and a girl companion went on board the Niagara on July 25 to see a woman friend. The friend was not on -board and when walking past a cabin, the door of which was open, accused saw inside on a bed what she took to be a bra- s s cigarette case. This she appropriated. After leaving the wharf accused opened the case and found it to be a gold travelling clock in a folding case. The accused and her companion later decided to hand the clock to the police and did so at the wharf station.

Detective-Sergeant MeHugh said tliaf the worst feature of the case was that an attempt was. made bv accused and her companion to sell the clock to a pawnbroker for £15 before they handed it to the police. Accused came of a good family and was one of 13. She and her companion \vere not the kind who frequented boats and they had only gone to the Niagara because they knew a woman friend on board. The acused was not living at home and somebody should have some- supervision over her.

The magistrate said " perhaps accused did not at the time realise that she had done wrong, but she seemed to be contrite and sorry - how. • She would be admitted to probation for one year.
