OVER FIVE MINUTES.

When Mr. A. J. Sheffield, aged 25, of West Bridgford, Nottingham, presented himself for admission to the Observation Section of the R.A.F. Volunteer Reserve in Nottingham he was asked by a doctor to hold his breath. To the doctor's astonishment he held it for 5m 40s. The doctor summoned Wing-Commander G. H. P. Padley, who is in charge of recruiting for the R.A.F. Volunteer Reserve in Nottingham, and again asked Mr. Sheffield to hold his breath. This time he did it for 5m 40s. Mr. Sheffield, a man of fine physique, who is employed in a printing works, stated afterwards that h? had made up his mind to pass the test. He is a non-smoker and is used, he said, to sprinting and other forms of sport. Wing-Commander Padley said that his medical sergeant had never heard of anyone who held his breatli for more than four minutes.
