YOUNG MOTORIST'S OFFENCE. NEGLIGENCE CAUSING DEATH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) INVERC.4RGILL, Monday. "There are your interests and the puhlie interest to consider, and the public interest is paramount." said Mr. Justice Smith, in sentencing a man who pleaded guilty to negligent driving causing death. "The sentence must be one that will act as a deterrent and show c'early tint the Courts will not tolerate conduct which leads to the slaughter of citizens. "On the charge of negligently driving a motor vehicle causing death you will be sentenced to six mouths' imprisonment with hard labour, and for failing to stop after the accident you be sentenced to two months" imprisonment with hard labour, the sentences to be concurrent. Your license will Ik> susliended and you will be prohibited from driving for 10 years."' The accused was Charles Archibald Riggley. aged 2(i, who pleaded guilty in the lower Court to a charge of negligent driving on August .",, thereby causing the death of Arthur Sydney Harper, and also to failing to stop' after an accident involving injury.
