TRACK TRIALS.
TE RAPA GALLOPS.
A SMART FIVE.
PRINCE ACRE'S EFFORT.
(By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") HAMILTON, this day. The tracks at Te Rapa have seldom been heavier than at present, and this morning when the semi-final gallops for the Pakurar.ga meeting took place on the No. 1 jrva.se track, the going was exceptionally I sloppy and not at all conducive to gallopI ing, while the programme, consequently, ! was a restricted one. Several interesting i trials were recorded, the best being those. ini Prince Acre and Young Paddon over live furlongs, and Whirling over half a mile. The sand was utilised for pace tasks. Hiim-A-Song (Winder), who ie a rather fractious customer on the tracks, wae permitted to gallop left-handed, and ran to the six furlong post in 1.25 l-o. The balance of the fast work attempted was carried out right-handed in view of the meeting at Ellerslie. Prince Acre (Hain) and Young Paddon (Long) were companions over five furlongs, there being little between the pair at the completion of the effort in 1.7%. They revelled in the going, and with the likelihood of such conditions obtaining at Ellerslie on Saturday, both should acquit themselves well among the sprinters. Prince Acre, who at his last start was second to Majority at Trentham, is bearing a particularly healthy appearance, and will claim a strong following. Young Paddon. too. should lack little on the score of condition. Wyndora (Long) ran five furlongs in 1.12 1-5. This member of A. C. Jones' string is bearing a robust appearance, and should prove a payable proposition this season. A smart half mile was credited to Whirling (McKenzie), who finished a couple of lengths in front of Royal Bachelor (Brady) in 535, the initial thre* being cut out in 396. Whirling handled the conditions in dashing style, and should be in forward condition for racing ahead. Kittle (Ensor) ran once round in 2.1 4-5, and Calorie (Thomson) ran to the I half mile post in 555. Calorie, who raced, disappointingly last season, looks muvh improved in condition. British Sovereign (Gilmer) was galI loped on the sand and went once round lin 2.14%. British Sovereign, who will probably contest the Greenmount Hunters' I Steeplechase in preference to the Hunt Cup on Saturday, is in great heart to contest his engagement. Calshot and St. Musk, two recent additions to J. F. Tntchen's stable, were among those to be exercised on the sand. X. R. McKenzie will ride Jack Tar and OSamos in their Ellerslie engagements next Saturday.
