NEW YORK, August 11

At Bonneville. Utah, the American racing motorist, A. B. Jenkins, in a 700 horse-power Mormon Meteor 111. ear, set a new 1000-mile speed record of 170.70 miles an hour, bettering his own previous mark of ItiS.ll m.p.li.

In a recent attempt on the 24-hour endurance record Jenkins was badly burned when his car caught fire while he was travelling at. 170 m.p.li. At one point he reached 171.31 m.p.h.
