AMERICA'S PLANS.
14,607,000 Dollars For Work On Small Islands. ACTIVITY ACCELERATED. United Tress Association.—Copyright. (Received 12 noon.) WASHINGTON, August 11. The Navy has ordered work to be started on five Pacific Island air bases. The award of construction contracts, totalling approximately 14,607,000 dollars, is announced. The work will be carried on at Kaneolie Bay, on Oalm Island, the fleet air base at Pearl Harbour, Honolulu, and at Midway, Johnston and Palmyra Islands. Congress authorised 12 bases last session appropriating <35.000.000 dollars for the work, and the Navy announcement indicates that the new Pacific construction will be accelerated beyond others.
