CARELESS MOTORISTS.

(From Our Correspondent.) PCTARUKU. Thursday. Criticism of the carelessness of motorists in negotiating flocks and herds oh highways was expressed by delegates at the Rotorua sub-provincial meeting »f the Farmers' Union, and it was decided to seek the co-operation of the Automobile Association in an attempt to educate the travelling public into the conect method of meeting and overtaking stock. Several members quoted instances where stock had l>een killed recently because of alleged carelessness oil the part of drivers. Speeding and inefficient brakes were stated to be common causes of collision*, particularly where stock was met on Ihukls.

A letter was received from the Commissioner of Transport stating that in March special instruction* had l>eeii issued to inspectors in order that attention niiplit lie paid to motorists in their conduct while pacing stock. The CommUsoncr explained that this action was taken with particular regard to drovers mid <loj:s. although it extended to sheep and cattle as well.
