PARENTS & TEACHERS.
CLOSER CO-OPERATION.
MOVE IN AMERICA
Mrs. H. C. Mathew, Xew York, was the speaker at a combined luncheon of the Women's To-day Sponsors' Leajrue and the Xew zjajkln nd Women's Food N'alue League at V>e Fabian clubrooms on Wednesday. Speakinjr on the subject of parent and school relationship!*, Mrs. Mathew commented on the lack of any attempt, in the majority of Xew Zealand schools to bring about a closer co-operation between parents and teachers for a better understanding of the child and his problems. One of the most promising signs in American education to-day. she said, was a. strong movement from the schools to draw parents into the school lives of their children by providing opportunities for parents and teachers to meet informally and for parents to see their children at work and understand the new methods of teaching and vocational education. Psychologists agreed that a sense of security was of the utmost importance 'to children in their growth, and security could only be given when the gulf between home and school was bridged and antagonisms between parent and teacher broken down.
