OX BEEF FIRM.
WESTFIELD MARKET.
PRICES FOR COWS EASIER.
AVERAGE NUMBERS YARDED,
The sharp fall in the number of steers offered resulted in keen bidding on the Westfield fat etock market to-day. Prices were firm on last week's advance, ranging up to 34/ per 1001b. Cows and heifers, on the other hand, were offered in full number?, and prices showed a slightly easier tendency, although quotations are the same.
The quality of the ox beef was not up to the ueual standard, although there were some outstanding beasts sold. In the cow section, however, a fair percentage of prime, well-finished sorts were included, and these made up to last week's rates.
The top price of the sale was realised for a line of 16 prime heavy bullocks sold on account of Mr. L. H. Larner, Morrinsville, which brought from £13 5/ to £16 Si/. No other line approached these prices, the. next highest realisation being £13 5/ for the best of a draft of 17 steers from Mr. D. J. Fraser, Okaihau. Steers sold on account of Mr. H. Windsor, Matangi, made up to £13 2/6. There was a fair yarding of calves, but although the sale opened firm, prices k. lowed an easier tendency in the latir stages'.
