STORM AT WHANGAREi. WORST FOR MANY YKARS. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. The worst storm for many years struck Whangarei late yesterday afternoon and continued throughout the greater part of the ni.uht. Following intermittent rain and a keen wind throughout the day. a thunderstorm broke over the town shortly nfter live o'clock and brilliant flushes of li.uhtniii.tr and heavy thunder continued for nearly an hour.' There were several heavy downpours and in the early evening fi«ar«* of flooding o-f the town were entertained.

Last night's rain was the heaviest recorded in Whnngarei during the month of July, the reading for the 24 hours ended at 9 o'clock to-day lieinji 2.:?oin. During the month there were 30 days of recordable rain, this being a ffjrure never previously approached since meteorological records have been kept at the Whanparei etation. The total fall for the month was K.ttT'm.
For the second time within the past five days enow has fallen on the Otiiim bill.-, about seven miles south-east of Kaikohe. The fall, which occurred in the early hours of this morning, was considerably heavier than that of last Thursday.
