Bombay ■went dry at midnight, but thousands were too drunk to worry about it. The city's SoO bars, liquor shops and hotels did a roaring trade throughout the evening, despite exorbitant prices.
More tlian SOO bars closed permanently with the enforcement of prohibition. Extra police, totalling 1000. have been enrolled, making the city force .ViOO, to prevent bootlegging.
Europeans and native princes have been exempted, but their consumption of liquor is limited.
It is announced that in future Govern ment House functions will be dry.
