FUGITIVE ITALIAN.
ARREST AT PARAKAI. FOUND OX RIVER BANK. The wanderings of the prohibited Italian immigrant, Gennaro Valenzi, aged 44, who disappeared from the Wanganella last Wednesday, the day after lie had arrived from Sydney in that vessel, came to an end this morning, when, at 9.30, Constable F. Newland, of Helensville, arrested him on warrant for landing in New Zealand without a permit. The constable found Valenzi on the river bank nt I'nrakai, near Heleneville, ai the Italian was walking across the mud M;tts in the direction of the township. Valenzi, who wiis showing the effects of his exposure to the rough and rold weather during the last few days, was without nil overcoat. Hi* trousers were wet and torn as a "result of his cnnl muni tramping across country. Inquiries show that after leaving An.,. ..::.! he set out on foot for the North and reached Helensville. via Henderson mid Muriwai Beach. On arrival nt. the lock-up at Helensville, Constable Newland provided the fugitive with a lint meal and n!*o lent him some clothe*. Valenzi was refused permission by the f'u-toms authorities to land at Auckland when ho arrived from Sydney by the Wanganelln Inst Tt>" dny. The following day he we n«l:ore without per-uii-sinn. TTh will he brought to Auckland this afternoon and will appear in the Police Court to-morrow morning.
