INDECENT ASSAULT CASE

-\<lilin;r a rider that it was considered that the. time was long- overdue when such eases should be treated as pathological eases and not as criminal cases. offenders treated in a suitable institution. a jury in (he Supreme Court yesterday found a cook, Francis Darey Hudson, aged 35, guilty of indecent assault 011 a male. He was found not guilty of committing an unnatural offence, and the jury made a recommentlfttion to mercy. After the foreman had read the rid.er. Mr. Justice Ostler commented that he did not quite know what to do with it. "The problem has worried mc greatly as a judge, and I have read all I can on the subject," he said. '"So far as medical science has gone there is no cure for crimes of a homosexual nature. "It is a very great problem, and I am "lad to fee that it has troubled you, because it has also troubled me," jie continued. "The position is unsatisfactory, but I think the lesser of two evils is to keep it a criminal offence." Hudson was remanded for sentence.
